The ancient Greeks and Chinese discovered that certain rare stones, called lodestones, were naturally magnetized. These stones could attract small pieces of iron in a magical way, and were found to always point in the same direction when allowed to swing freely suspended by a piece of string. The name of Magnet comes from Magnesia, in Greece.
The properties of magnet (lodestones) have been known for over 2000 years. The Chinese were the first one using magnets as compasses. Today, magnets are used in all the generator , motors, television set etc.

The trade name for sintered Ferrite which first became available in 1950’s. It is produced by the powder metallurgy process from a compound of Ferric Oxide and A Carbonate of Either Barium or Strontium. The sintered Compact is very hard and brittle and is often referred to as ceramic . Isotropic Ferrite and Anisotropic Ferrite differ in that the latter has a marked anisotropy given by an external field at the time of pressing.

ANISOTROPIC FERRITE IS LIMITED TO ONE WHICH IS USUALLY THE THICKNESS.
MACHINING IS LIMITED TO GRINDING.
Tolerances on the sintered pieces ae typically +/- 2% except for the magnetic axis +/-0.1mm.
